Friday Night In

Friday, June 17th, 2011

I have to get up super early tomorrow to go to Boston with a friend to do an IKEA run and pick up a mattress and box spring another friend is giving me for my guest room.  IKEA is that place where time stops, kind of or okay a lot like Vegas casinos where there are not clocks…only at IKEA they haven’t started serving alcoholic beverages yet. Probably a good thing since people are spending money and driving. Anyhow, it’s raining out and I’m doing all that tomorrow so tonight is a night in.  Just as well, it’s raining and gray.

I’m not much of a rain jacket girl, but I love umbrellas. I only have one; it’s black from Brooks Brothers. One of those I just got my hair done in Boston days and am heading to dinner when it starts to pour and there is good old reliable Brooks Brothers on the corner. That’s about all my dad wore, to work anyway and then L.L. Bean on weekends. Thinking a lot about my dad lately and wishing he was alive and could come visit me in my new home. I think he’d be proud of me and would love this place. I can picture him just sitting out back at night looking at the stars and feeling like he did when he was at his house in the Shenandoah Valley or reminiscing about his childhood in Magnolia, Arkansas. Father’s Day is another one of those holidays I do my best to ignore. It’s been tough, because I write blogs for a couple clients and of course we did Father’s Day lists. All holidays are pretty tough since he passed, but let’s not go there. It will be five years this September and each year I do a little better.  The big emotions have settled so time does help heal wounds.

For a fun change, and back off the tangent, I do love umbrellas. Bright ones, plain, with design, the brighter the better. These Cocopani Umbrellas I saw on Lonny are brilliant.

So what to do tonight?  Without a TV it’s watch a movie on my computer or read. I can’t read at night. Four pages in and I’m out. Hoping Sunday allows me an hour or so of sun on the porch so I can make a bit more headway in one of the books I’m reading. At any time I’ve got three totally different story lines going.  Thinking I’ll go old school with my film choice. Either Time to Kill or The Covenant.  My small video collection is so random with BBC Pride and Prejudice, yoga/workout videos, surf documentaries, odd and end documentary, a box set of Humphrey Bogart films, True Blood Season One, Sex and the City movie (first one!), Coal Miner’s Daughter and the above mentioned films. Wishing I had a copy of The Hangover, so funny!

Well, signing off…have a beautiful weekend. xo
