Portland Stroll and East End Cupcakes

Last night I went into town (aka Portland) for the first time since moving to the country to have dinner and drinks with a friend. Since moving out here I don’t want to leave, and thankfully most of my friends have indulged me (note, I feed my guests so there is some incentive). I’ve been into town to grocery shop, attend a meeting…all daytime stuff. I no longer live there, and in a way I don’t feel like I ever belonged there the way I did when I lived in Manhattan and LA.  The town has so much to offer, but here in Maine the country life just suits me better.

I parked my car at my friend’s place and we walked downtown.  It was a beautiful night and knowing I’d be having a cocktail doing so gave me extra opportunity to walk it off before making the drive home. The walk allowed me to see Portland in a different light. Among the sights and sounds there were new eateries I had not seen before.  Miyake has moved (gorgeous space), there is a new cupcake boutique (may the trend never die) where I met my beloved Vanilla Cupcake with Peanut Butter frosting (with a dab of jelly), an Asian fusion place opened where I’m likely to get takeout from (not wanting the blue lit nightclub interior), a franchise of Five Guys Burgers and Fries filled in next to a few boutiques (love the name, the look, the easy to order online menu, do not love that the veggie sandwich only comes w/ condiments & toppings no patty..huh?).
