I’ve always loved rainy days, especially when wedged between several even lovelier sunny ones. As long as you are prepared they can be fun and relaxing. How I recommend spending a rainy day:
1. Get boots to jump through puddles. On cooler days Hunter’s Fleece Welly Sock is a marvel.
2. Wear layers and a great jacket. I love this one by Spiewak.
3. Carry a bright umbrella. How much more fun is it to carry a red with white polka dots umbrella than an old navy one?
4. Watch a favorite film. “Please Give” and “Tender Mercies” are amazing.
5. Have friends over, pour some wine, and work on a craft project. I always have a stitching or knitting project in the works. There never seems to be time to work on them, so when there is I try to take advantage. My friend Jackie is a star knitter, as is my friend Annie..both of whom are incredibly generous with their gift-giving of handmade items. Alabama Chanin sells the most incredible, sustainable stitching DIY kits. This Alabama Chanin flag quilt will be my summer (and fall, okay and likely winter) project. Annie, if you are reading this, I’ll need your help on this one.
6. Learn to cook something new…like this recipe for Linquine in Lemon Cream Sauce from the spring 2011 special issue of Vegetarian Times. *I use Galaxy Nutritional Foods Classic Plain Veggie Cream Cheese instead of light cream cheese. It can be found in natural food stores, and by June in Whole Foods Markets.
7. Sort through that stack of magazines piling up. Diner Journal and Garden & Gun are two I read every page of…the writing is that good.
