What I lack in interest in makeup (with the great exception of nail polish, which I love – the brighter the redder, the more neon, deeper, darker, vamp the better), I make up for in skin and hair care. Thankfully I’ve been blessed with healthy skin (even in my youthful days of Hostess/Baskin Robbins attachments and through the alcohol spirited binges in university), but rather than take this for granted I respect and nourish it. As I mature (yes, near that landmark 40) and spend more time sweating in the gym I’ve found myself consulting with Rhonda Nordstrom from Rheal Day Spa in Rockland (my all things skin guru) about prevention. Think about it, once you’ve got the wrinkles and who knows what spots your options are more limited. A few years ago she turned me on to Dr. Hauschka‘s natural skin care products and I integrated the brand into my morning and evening facial routines.
A couple years ago, when I like every other woman over the age of 30, came to the realization I needed to do something with those stretch marks she pointed me in the direction of their body oils. Between the Lemon Lemongrass Body Oil I rub on my thighs after working out/showering and the almost complete removal of processed sugar from my diet, I really think the cellulite is not as visible. *It’s important to note I don’t eat processed foods and I drink a LOT of water daily – it all helps.
These days it’s all the hand washing from taking care of the chicks (all that cleaning of the brooder in the first three weeks), bizarre weather/season changes (winter – spring – summer are big ones) and showering after working out (five days a week) that has had me talking to Rhonda about body moisturizers. I approached Rhonda and Dr. Hauschka about sampling their body moisturizers after falling for one of the samples Rhonda had given me after an appointment. The company very generously agreed and sent me a few samples. I LOVE them – the moisturizers and the company (and yes, Rhonda of course you too). There are so many companies out there putting beautifully packaged lovely scented moisturizers on the market and how many of us have fallen for them – uh huh – BUT how many work? Forget the shtick and go for the real thing – I’ve got one bottle each of the Regenerating Body Moisturizer and Lavender Sandalwood Body Moisturizer in my bedroom. Following are descriptions of each, but what they don’t tell you and I will is this…my skin feels replenished. It’s like a trip to the water fountain after a workout or a dip in the lake on a hot summer day. After everything I’ve done during the day it’s the nicest way to fall into bed. I’ll also say this, by taking Rhonda’s advice and using Dr. Hauschka I don’t get the blackheads on my face or dry skin on my arms I used to and that’s with all the time in the gym and being active outside.
Dr. Hauschka Regenerating Body Moisturizer – Extracts of red clover, horsetail and birch leaves offer antioxidant properties while helping to promote the skin’s natural processes of renewal. Jojoba oil, candelilla wax and marsh mallow extract moisturize and balance the skin, making it feel silky smooth and supple. Elasticity is enhanced and skin feel tighter and firmer.
Lavender Sandalwood Body Moisturizer – Extracts of lemon balm and wood sorrel balance and renew, while fine oils of macadamia nut, apricot kernel and avocado support and fortify the skin’s protective barrier. Offers a respite that soothes and senses, cares for the skin and opens the mind of new possibilities.
Natural, make-up free, enjoying the outdoors.
